About Githaka Estate
Welcome to Githaka Estate, where the slopes of Murang’a meet generations of Kenyan coffee wisdom. Here, on fertile highlands nourished by red volcanic soil and the cool breeze of the Chania River, coffee is not just grown — it is crafted. For us, coffee begins long before the first cherry ripens. It begins with family, heritage, and a deep respect for the land.
A Family Legacy: Githaka Estate is a family-owned farm established in the late 1970s by Allan and Elizabeth Ngugi, who cultivated coffee alongside dairy, horticulture, and mushroom farming. Today, a second generation runs the estate with the same spirit of stewardship and innovation.
At 1,550 metres above sea level, our farm borders the Chania River, whose steep banks form a natural preservation area planted with indigenous trees — a sanctuary for birds,

What We Do
At Githaka, coffee is more than a crop — it’s a way of life.
We Grow Coffee with Intention
At Githaka, every bean is shaped by generations of knowledge, a deep connection to our land, and a commitment to farming that strengthens both people and planet. Our practices uphold dignified work for women and men, climate-smart agriculture, thriving ecosystems, and inclusive, resilient rural economies.
Planting & Nurture
Seedlings begin in carefully tended nursery beds before being transplanted into rich volcanic soil. Pruning, weeding, and rejuvenation cycles ensure each tree grows strong, healthy, and open to tropical sunlight and fresh highland air.
Hand Picking
Kenyan coffee is harvested by hand twice a year — April to June and October to December — ensuring only the ripest cherries are selected.
The well-being of our farm workers and their families is at the heart of our operations. We believe in doing business the right way — ethically, transparently, and with purpose.
Our Impact
At Githaka, sustainability is not an add-on — it has long been our practice.
